The Mitch Dowd story is a testament to good old Australian hard work and determination. The company was born almost by accident in late 1987. The then 24 year old Mitch worked the boutique shops of Chapel Street in Melbourne, selling some hand painted boxer shorts he had created in an attempt to help fund an art exhibition. Clearly people very quickly saw the potential in his underwear designs because he sold 150 pairs in a single week. Hot on the heels of this sales success David Jones’ underwear buyers ordered 5,000 pairs and Myer ordered the same amount.
At this stage, boxer shorts were a new import from Europe and there was a lot of buzz around the hot new mens underwear style. Mitch Dowd was in the right place, at the right time, with some amazing underwear designs.
After a round of financing in 2005, Mitch Dowd has become a globally recognised underwear brand. From humble Aussie beginnings their undies are now sold in the USA and UK. In addition to this, a ladies lingerie brand bas been launched as part of a join project with top brand JAG.
Today the brand is a market leader in underwear and sleepwear fashion. A true business success story which proves that hard work and talent can create some amazing results.
